Dear Chevonne,

Today we commemorate the landing of Christopher Columbus in the New World on October 12, 1492. Happy Columbus Day!

Many thanks to those of you who volunteered to help with Kosair's Fall Festival this past Saturday!

Thursday, November 7, 8:00 a.m. | The Olmsted

With just over three weeks to go, we are in the home stretch for the Mountaintop Breakfast - Summit Academy's largest fundraising and educational event!

E-invites are now available and will be sent to you later this week.  We also have printed invitations available - need one sent to someone? Please contact Teri Hardman via email or at 244.7813.

Once again, Summit will offer extended childcare on the morning of the breakfast for those parents attending.  Our doors will be open beginning at 7:00 am on Thursday, November 7, for anyone who wishes to drop their student at the school before going to the Breakfast.  Teachers will be overseeing the children and there will be no charge.

As in previous years, we will have some children involved in the event - we will be letting you know next week if your child will be participating and what that will mean for you.

We are looking forward to this year's Breakfast and hope to see you there!

Picture Re-Take/Make-Up Day

cameraPicture re-take/make-up day was cancelled last Friday and has been rescheduled to Friday, October 25, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Please note this on your calendars and be sure to notify your child's homeroom teacher if you intend to have their photo re-taken.

Cookie Dough & Gift Wrap cookie dough and gift wrap from the fundraiser will be delivered on Thursday, October 24 to be distributed during afternoon carpool. Please be prepared to collect any orders of gift wrap or cookie dough at this time.

Volunteers are needed to help organize and distribute the orders during the afternoon carpool.

If you would like to help out, please contact Heather Hendrix.

Learn More About Internet Safety special assembly is scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, at 2 p.m. in the auditorium for our 7th and 8th grade parents and students.

Officer David Hamblin from the Metro Police will be here to discuss internet safety.  The technological revolution has changed our world.  While there are many, many benefits as a result of all the technology, there are also dangers.  We want to make our students aware of the dangers associated with social media and misuse of the internet. The presentation will last about 30 minutes followed by 15 minute Q & A.

Summit Grandparents

We had approximately 150 grandparents join us for breakfast on Thursday. Following breakfast and a short presentation, grandparents had the opportunity to see firsthand their grandchildren in action when they visited with the literacy classes.  From the smiles on their faces on their way out, it looked to be a very enjoyable morning!

If your child's grandparents did not receive an invitation in the mail, please let us know. We will be doing another Grandparent's Day in the spring and want to make sure everyone is invited!

You will receive an email link to the pictures from Grandparents Day this week.

Art Club

Calling all young artists...

Art Club will begin on Wednesday, October 16, from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Summit parent, Ryan Scarbrough, will be sponsoring the club this year. There are a few spots still available and registration is required before your student can attend.

Silent Messenger

You may have already noticed a recent addition to the front lawn. The statue of a Kosair Shriner carrying a child, one that you can also find in several other locations in the Louisville area, is known as the Silent Messenger. They are symbolic of the statement, "No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child."

The statue signifies our gratitude for the relationship between Summit Academy and Kosair Charities and all of the support that has helped to change the lives of so many children.

High School Visits Trinity High School and Mercy Academy visits for 7th and 8th grade students have been once again rescheduled. They will be visiting on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 22 AT 9:45 a.m.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
DeSales will visit Summit 7th and 8th grade boys on Tuesday, October 15 at 9:45 a.m. in the auditorium.

Girls will meet in the conference room, boys in the auditorium.

Parents are invited to attend these meetings.
