PTO News 

The 1st PTO meeting will be Wednesday, September 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the conference room. Please plan to attend and meet the new board, talk about the upcoming year of events, and discuss what activities and community events you, as parents, would like to participate in.  


New families who haven't picked up their pre-filled Kroger card, will be receiving their card from Kristie Graf, Kroger Card Chair, in their child's backpack. If you do not have an activated Kroger card, please contact Kristie, to get your card.


Thank you to everyone who purchased Spirit t-shirts. The re-order should arrive next week with more sizes, including Tall XL, 2XL, 3XL. Remember spirit wear can only be worn on Fridays, free dress days, earned free dress days, Summit game days and other specified days.


Back-to-School Night hope to see you on Thursday, September 19 at 7:00 p.m. Your 'school day' will begin in the Auditorium and then you will visit all of your child's teachers. Please make arrangements for your child to remain at home for Back-to-School Night.


Groups for Children with ADHD


The Noble H. Kelly PSC at University of Louisville is running two groups for children this fall that may be of benefit to some of our students: 

  • Managing Frustration for Children (MFC) group for ages 8-11 
  • Parenting group for parents of children with ADHD

The Throws Club session will run September 26 - November 7.

Therapeutic Expressive Arts The Weber Gallery and Family Outreach and Support are proud to present: Therapeutic Expressive Arts.


This program aims to help students with disabilities overcome their emotional and mental difficulties by engaging, and expressing themselves through art. Join them for an introductory meeting on Thursday, September 19 from 1-2:00 p.m. at Council on Developmental Disabilities, 1151 S. 4th Street, Louisville 40203. Space is limited so registration is required.

Bright Stars Speech Therapy Blog Cronin and Ashley Havens have updated their Bright Stars Speech Therapy blog and given it a new look! Click here to check it out.


Bring in Your Gently Worn Shoes


Our intermediate classes are collecting shoes for WaterStep. This organization helps to provide clean water all over the world. The shoes will be distributed to the women and children who, most often times, walk many miles to collect their water.

Shoes of all sizes and styles will be accepted until Friday, September 27. Deliver them to any member of the Intermediate Team: Mrs. Strong, Mrs. Mathews, Mrs. Gallison, Mrs. Gaddie, and Mrs. Hill.


Kosair Charities Needs Our Help


Kosair Supported Logo As you know, Summit Academy receives a generous financial contribution from Kosair Charities. Thanks to this gift we are able to provided needed services to our students that we could not provide without their support.


Kosair Charities is celebrating 90 years this year and this celebration will culminate with the Kosair Charities Fall Fest at their Eastern Parkway Campus on October 12 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.


Kosair is in need of volunteers to help in the Reunion Tent, Sponsor Tent, Lost Kid Booth as well as wherever help is needed. Time slots are available for: 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m.; 2-6 pm; 6-10 pm.

Hitting the Street for FEAT


The Outrunning Autism 5K Run/Walk will be through Graymoor-Devondale and the 1 Mile Fun Walk winds through the shops in Westport Village. There will be food and drinks as well as plenty of activities for the kids.
