What’s Developing in Development?

Welcome Back!

Hope everyone is starting to get settled into the school routine – the first few days back to school are always an adjustment – I know my husband (who is a teacher) and my daughter (in high school) always struggle with getting back into a rhythm… But I for one am happy to have everyone back!

I wanted to take a moment to introduce you to the Development Office at Summit Academy.  We have had the opportunity to meet many of you, but there are some who may wonder what we do and why we do it.  Tuition does not cover all of the costs to providing the nurturing educational environment here at Summit Academy.  In fact, tuition and related fees cover only about 75-80% of the total expenses.  The remainder is raised through the efforts of the Development Office – we write grant proposals, solicit corporate sponsorships, conduct the Annual Giving Campaign, and hold two special events each year – the Mountaintop Breakfast in November and Bluegrass Bourbon & Basketball in March.  These activities help raise over $400,000 each year – while some of the funds we receive are restricted for certain projects or programs, the majority of the funds help to cover general operating expenses and provide scholarships to students in need.  We also work with our Marketing Department and other staff to host a few “feel good” events throughout the year – including the New Parent Social (August 21), Walk in My Shoes for Families (August 27), Middletown Parade and Picnic (September 6) and Grandparents Day (October 25). These events are designed to help bring together our families and share some of the great things going on in our school every day.

We will share updates on upcoming events and activities in the Monday Update most weeks.  Of course, you can always feel free to contact me if you have any questions related to our fundraising efforts. Call, email or just stop by my office in the auditorium, past the conference room.  Debi Longfellow, our Development Assistant, is also available to answer questions, update information, etc.

We invite you to take an active role in helping us with our events and activities.  If you know of a business that might be willing to sponsor an event or a potential funding source, please let me know.  Have someone you would like to have invited to our events?  Just provide their information and we’ll make it happen!

Together we are going to continue to do amazing things here at Summit Academy!
