We have many traditions here at Summit – one being the Annual Chick Derby. This year’s was the best I’ve witnessed!

… And they’re off!

The Chick Derby got off to an excellent start. All chicks were focused and ready to hit the track.

But what’s going on here?!….

Luckily our “trainers” are also excellent referees. The situation was quickly righted.

The race was close…

But at last – a winner!

Placing in the race, was Canton’s chicken, “CJ”.

And Melanie’s chicken, “Happy Feet” came in 3rd to Show.

The fourth grade class chickens hatched just in time for what could be the last annual Chick Derby. After 13 years, our devoted teacher, Mrs. Strong is retiring. Borrowing words from a fellow teacher, her unwavering commitment, whole-hearted care and concern for our students, and demonstrated passion and dedication to the entire Summit family will be truly missed. Thank you, Mrs. Strong!
