Program Eligibility
Summit Academy admits children who have difficulty listening, speaking, reading, writing or thinking, despite adequate intelligence, conventional instruction, and appropriate socio-cultural opportunities. These difficulties may be the result of a learning disability or other learning difference. Although this is not a comprehensive list of all the learning obstacles that our students face, the following are examples of conditions that may benefit from our school program:
- Central Auditory Processing Disorder
- Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia
- Attention Deficit Disorder
- Language Processing Disorder
- Written Language Disorder
- Asperger's Syndrome
- Non-Verbal Learning Disorder
- Sensory Integration Disorder
- Developmental Delay (through age 6)
We are designed to serve children who have average to above-average aptitude for learning. New admission students should be of appropriate age for placement in Kindergarten through eighth grade. The Head of School may, at her discretion, offer families admission for their student on a trial basis, not to exceed one school year. Every student's progress is reviewed yearly to determine if they should continue at Summit Academy, or are ready to return to a conventional school setting.
Summit Academy does not admit children whose primary disorder is behavioral or emotional.
Equal Opportunity
Summit Academy does not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, color, religion, nationality or ethnic origin in administration of its policies and programs.

Summit Academy offers need-based tuition assistance. The amount of financial aid awarded to each family is based on the total number of applicants requesting aid, and on the total amount of financial aid dollars that are available from fund-raising efforts each year.
Summit Academy uses the NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) financial aid service called The School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS)
ALL APPLICATIONS FOR FINANCIAL AID MUST BE MADE THROUGH SSS.
- Apply for financial aid online at http://sss.nais.org
- OUR SCHOOL CODE IS #5089. You will receive a separate password for your personal financial information.
- SSS will analyze the information from each family and submit a report to Summit Academy. Based on this information, a non-parent Trustee committee will make award decisions. Decisions are made within 4-6 weeks of submission of financial aid application to SSS.
- If you have questions about the financial aid process, or the status of your financial aid, please contact the business office at 502.244.7090.

Walk In My Shoes
Parents or community members interested in learning about learning disabilities and Summit Academy's mission can schedule a "Walk In My Shoes".
A "Walk" is a 60-minute, entertaining and educational program designed to help people understand what it is like to have learning disabilities and differences. We discuss how the brain learns and what kinds of things interfere with learning. This information, accompanied by learning disability simulations, will shed a whole new light on the way you think about education.
- We will schedule a "Walk" for your group on campus (where you can see our students in action), or we will bring a "Walk" to you!
- We have taken a "Walk" with many different civic and parent groups, including the Kiwanis, realtor offices, and The Louisville Women's Club, among others.
I want to schedule a "Walk In My Shoes!"
